WE SPEAK, Peer Empowerment & Advocacy Program

WE SPEAK (WE SPEAK- Young Women’s Empowered Support Protect Educate Advocate and Know) is the Peer Empowerment and Advocacy program and the cornerstone of YWCHAC.  Formed in 2006, with 25 young women of color from the five boroughs, the group consists of both HIV positive and HIV negative young women of color who meet weekly within the academic year.  Members assist in identifying the goals and program priorities of the Coalition and the development of activities and events for young women of color.

As a result of in depth conversations with the many young women that have gone through the program, the live saving tools and workshops they requested stem around their need to be better equipped for the life ahead of them; thus the core component of the program is to provide life skills that include financial literacy workshops, education and health literacy.
